What I was thinking:
When you feel like you don't have a say in what becomes of you. Or like your thoughts and opinions are just silly because you couldn't possibly have much to contribute to society or to the community or to a conversation. So, you distract yourself with things the way a parent gives their child a toy to play with while they do important stuff.
