Coyote Couture-
Allegory of Kleptocracy
The woman, a Gilded Age Industrialist type, is wearing a luxurious fur around her neck similar to that of the dog she keeps on a leash, suggesting the fur once belonged to a similar animal that was deemed less worthy of it. Although it was the dog’s birthright, she apparently earned it through another form of birthright known as generational wealth. This society promotes exploitation for personal gain as success. Those who take advantage are rewarded for being smart enough to recognize the opportunity. In a better world, these people might be recognized as thieves and glorified hoarders. This all unfolds under the lazy gaze of the moderately privileged cats as they rest easy under the trees, knowing they are off the hook as long as the dogs can’t fight back.
